High School Musical

South Shelby High School

The auditorium at the Hawkins Theater in Shelbina was full of music and laughter as the South Shelby Extras performed their rendition of High School Musical. After lots of practices, rehearsals, makeup and rescheduling, the cast was finally able to perform the musical before the public on November 17th, 18th and 19th.

Senior Jordan Blew was Gabriella Montez, the female lead singer, and Shannon Hall was Troy Bolton, the male lead singer. While Hall has played the lead singer for the past 3 years, this was Blew's first musical as a lead. Her talent amazed audience members. "They all did a great job and are all very talented," Stephanie Holder, Senior, said about the cast of the musical.

The musical featured songs such as "Getcha Head In The Game," "We're All In This Together," "Bop to the Top," and "Breaking Free." It was a full house every night of the musical due to the peppy music, charming romance and hilarious dialogue.

Senior Arielle Gough (portraying Sharpay Evans) has been in performances by the South Shelby Extras for the past 4 years. Gough's biggest role out of her high school career has been playing Sharpay this year. Gough enjoyed playing the different personality of Sharpay. "My favorite part about being Sharpay was being able to be mean, bossy and somewhat nice all at the same time," she said. She also "loved getting to dress in pink and sparkles." Audience members loved Gough's performance as Sharpay Evans and Trevor Collins' performance as Sharpay's brother, Ryan Evans, saying they "were hilarious and very talented."

The musical was a hit. Through illness, rescheduling, sports, and all the hectic preparation, the South Shelby Extras were able to put together an amazing performance that had audience members resisting the urge to dance in the aisles and songs that won the hearts of audience members of all ages. Each cast member, no matter how big a role, did an amazing job and had the audience smiling and wishing for more.
