South Callaway led 11-9 after one quarter, but the game was tied at 22-all at halftime. Tipton took a 40-37 advantage into the fourth quarter. "Tipton did a good job of taking care of the ball," Bulldogs head coach Jason Harrell said. "They're a physically strong team. They got some easy baskets by breaking our pressure late in the game." Junior guard Will Brandt ended up with 17 points to direct South Callaway, which slipped to 13-12 overall and completed Mid-Missouri Conference play with a 4-6 record. Junior guard Bryan Lechner followed with 11 points for the Bulldogs, who finished 10-of-18 from the foul line. Cameron Backes responded with a game-high 22 points to spur three players in double figures for the Cardinals, who made 34-of-53 free throws overall. Cody Beyers was next with 15 points and Chris Bracht provided 13. No. 5 seed South Callaway opens against No. 4 California at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the first round of the Class 3, District 8 Tournament at Hallsville. The Bulldogs lost to the Pintos 51-40 in their season opener Nov. 30 in the first round of the Eugene Tournament. "We didn't play as well as we could have for our first game out," Harrell said. "If we can rely on our pressure, we have a good chance to be there at the end.
