Stress and Depression

We all deal with stress in today’s society; it’s a simple and noticeable fact. But something no everyone knows is that stress can lead to sickness and even death if stress levels are not kept under control. Extremely common symptoms of stress are indigestion, heartburn, stomach pain, hyperventilation, insomnia, headaches, fatigue, decreased appetite, anger, decreased patience, and sadness. These symptoms can also be signs of depression. If you have several of these symptoms for more than a few days, you should see a professional at the Student Health Center or Counseling and Testing Center. The general ways of coping with stress is to stay active: play sports, go for a walk, join an after school program! Be a leader in making your school or community safer; join an accepting group that is promoting nonviolence in your school or community. Stay in touch with family and take care of yourself. Make sure to get eight hours of sleep daily and drink plenty of water. Eating a regular balanced diet and a regular exercise program is another way to decrease your stress level and also helps keep you healthy.
