Central nabs HHC title
Clinton Central won the Hoosier Heartland Conference Tournament title on Saturday, netting six individual champions. Those were: Keegan Padgett (80 pounds), Logan Lawler (110), Joe Douglass (120), Kyle Howe (125), Tristan Hoffman (220) and Devin Walton (heavyweight). Placing second for CC were Devin Anderson, Rayce Quick and Jake Wessel. Finishing in third were Trenton McQuinn, Cale Lucas, Lane Anes and Domonic Warthan.
Winning by fall against Frankfort were Padgett, Anderson, Lucas, Lawler, Howe, Quick, Warthan and Hoffman. Also winning were Tallon Surber, Douglass and John Moore.
Against Prairie, Padgett, Anderson, McQuinn, Lucas, Lawler, Howe, Moore, Quick, Hoffman and Anes won by pin, Douglass won via technical fall and Gage Eli and Surber won by decision.
Rossville had four individual champions: Ben Devaney (85), Butch Devaney (115), Cole Bodine (135) and Josh Guffey (140). Dave Devaney (70), Austin Erdman (110), Robby Gibson (130) and Hunter Mink (245) were second, Jacob Butcher (95) was third and Jay Smith (100) and Hunter Hicks (105) finished in fourth place.
SEVENTH GRADE BASKETBALL
Hornets win Roosevelt Invitational
Rossville won the Roosevelt Invitational on Saturday, defeating host Roosevelt, 43-32, in the title game. Jayden Murray led the Hornets (6-1) with 17 points. Maggie Deboy scored 13 points and Julia Malson, Cory Taylor, Marissa Heath and Skyler Miller also scored in the win.
Deboy and Murray scored 16 and 12 points, respectively, in a 46-21 win over Delphi in the first game. Gretchen Gary, Samantha Haan and Alisha McKenzie aided in the victory.
FIFTH GRADE BASKETBALL
Granville Wells 25, Clinton Prairie 24
Clinton Prairie fell to Granville Wells, 25-24, on Monday night. Kayla Martin led the Gophers (2-2) with 14 points. Katie Blacker scored 10 points, Emma McKinney was noted for her all-around play and Tye Kerschner led the defensive effort.
