BOYS BASKETBALL
Pioneer 50, Rossville 47
Pioneer’s Brandon Scruggs hit a 40-footer at the buzzer to lift the Class A No. 10 Panthers past Rossville, 50-47, on Saturday night. It’s the second consecutive night the Hornets (8-8) lost on a 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Michael Gregorash led Rossville with 14 points. Both James Baker and Austin Miller scored 11 points apiece.
Lewis Cass 79, Clinton Central 52
Clinton Central fell to 1-13 on the season with a 79-52 loss to Lewis Cass on Saturday night. Lane McCoy led the Bulldogs with 17 points and Jake Burton finished with 13 points.
Lewis Cass also won the junior varsity game, 48-24. For CC, Austin Merrill scored nine points and Tristan Knox seven points.
North White 60, Clinton Prairie 49
Clinton Prairie junior Austin Martin scored a career-high 33 points in the Gophers’ 60-49 loss to North White on Saturday night. Ryan Walker and Kale Morris were also in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Prairie (2-12) led by 10 points after one quarter of play, but North White ripped off 35 second-quarter points to lead 49-35 at the half.
Luke Diener led North White with 27 points. Cole Reumler had 19 points and Drake Fleck 11 points.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Carroll 43, Rossville 38
Rossville had a five-point lead entering the fourth quarter, but Carroll outscored the Hornets, 18-10, in the final eight minutes to earn a 43-38 win on Saturday.
Emily Virtue-Gamblin led Rossville with 10 points. Michaela Miller scored nine points, Hannah Alling seven points, and Megan Longenecker and Brittyn Oliver had four points apiece.
Danielle Memmer tallied six rebounds and three assists for the Hornets (2-15, 1-4 Hoosier Heartland Conference).
WRESTLING
Easterday advances to regional
Rossville sophomore Adam Easterday (132) was the only Hornet to advance out of the Lafayette Jeff Sectional on Saturday. Easterday (28-12) placed fourth to move on to the Logansport Regional.
Senior Trenton Fadness (138 pounds) placed sixth, as did sophomore Jocey Martin (170). Freshman Tyler Fadness (106) finished fifth.
Harrison won the team title with 218.5 points, followed by West Lafayette (200.5) and Delphi (191). Rossville was ninth (32) out of 10 teams.
7 TH GRADE BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Frankfort nabs county title
Frankfort defeated Clinton Prairie, 43-40, in the county tournament championship game on Saturday.
Clinton Central defeated Rossville in the consolation game, 43-35. In the semifinals, Prairie topped Rossville, 44-22, and Frankfort beat Central, 59-32.
8 th GRADE BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Rossville wins county title
Rossville routed Frankfort, 51-24, to win the county tournament title on Saturday. For Frankfort, Griffin Harris scored eight points, Carter Taylor and Austin Hernandez scored five points each, and Christian Vega was noted for a great defensive effort. The Hot Dogs finish the season 7-10.
Clinton Prairie defeated Clinton Central, 47-38, in the consolation game. In the semifinals, Rossville topped Central, 62-27, and Frankfort bested Prairie, 55-38. For Frankfort, Harris scored 13 points, Vega 12 points, Taylor nine points, Oscar Conde eight points and Hernandez five points.
