Here’s a look at how county athlete are faring at the collegiate level.
Johnny Varner (Frankfort) – Franklin College
Varner helped Franklin have a happy homecoming on Sept. 22 as the Grizzles defeated Earlham College, 70-20. Varner had four tackles – two tackles for loss and two sacks – and he also forced a fumble.
Keri Friend (Rossville) – Ancilla College
Friend had 19 digs in Ancilla’s 3-1 loss to Kellogg Community College on Sept. 20. She followed that up with a team-leading 19 digs in a 3-1 win over Jackson Community College on Sept. 25. She had 22 digs in a 3-0 loss to South Suburban College on Sept. 29.
Hadley Orr (Clinton Central) – Michigan State University
Orr saw action in one set in the No. 24 Spartans’ 3-0 victory over Indiana on Sept. 22.
Heather Tolson (Clinton Central) – Indiana University-Kokomo
Tolson had 19 assists, three kills, two digs and an ace in IU-K’s 3-0 loss to Northwestern (Ohio) on Sept. 22. In a 3-1 win over Ursuline College on the same day, Tolson had 19 assists, eight digs and two blocks.
In a 3-0 loss to Vincennes University on Sept. 25, Tolson had 11 assists, four kills and four digs. She followed that up with 16 assists, three kills, two digs and two blocks in a 3-1 win over Franklin College on Sept. 29.
Natasha Greenwood (Frankfort) – Indiana Wesleyan University
Greenwood finished 174th (25 minutes, 24 seconds) in the Griak Invitational on Sept. 29, on the campus of the University of Minnesota. Thirty-eight teams competed in the Women’s Maroon Division II race, with the Wildcats finishing 23rd out of 38 teams.
Kelby Jenkins (Frankfort) – University of Evansville
Jenkins finished third in the Blue Team race in the Greater Louisville Classic on Sept. 29 at the University of Louisville. She finished with a time of 17:54, helping the Purple Aces finish 11th.
Ashley Torres (Frankfort) – University of Evansville
Torres finished 263rd in the Silver Team race in the Greater Louisville Classic on Sept. 29. Torres ran the race in 23:39, helping the Purple Aces place 16th.
