FOOTBALL
Johnny Varner (Frankfort) – Franklin College
Franklin, ranked 20th in Division III last week, romped past Manchester, 48-27, in the Heartland Conference opener on Sept. 15. Varner started at linebacker, tallying five tackles and a sack.
VOLLEYBALL
Keri Friend (Rossville) – Ancilla College
Friend and a teammate combined for 43 digs in Ancilla’s 3-1 victory over Lake Michigan College (25-20, 25-17, 21-25, 25-15) on Sept. 13.
In a 3-1 loss to the Indiana Tech junior varsity team, Friend had 21 digs. She followed that up with five aces in a 3-0 win over Henry Ford Community College on the same day.
Friend tallied six kills in a 3-0 win against Lansing Community College on Tuesday.
Kiersten Ham (Frankfort) – Northern Kentucky University
Ham, a sophomore, saw her first career action for Northern Kentucky in a 3-0 win (25-11, 25-17, 25-14) over Holy Cross on Sept. 15. Ham played in one set and tallied one ace and one dig.
Hadley Orr (Clinton Central) – Michigan State University
Orr saw action in one set in the Spartans’ 3-0 win over Georgetown (25-15, 25-18, 25-20) in the semifinals of the Holiday Inn Charleston/Mt. Pleasant Tournament last weekend. She finished with one kill and two digs.
Heather Tolson (Clinton Central) – Indiana University-Kokomo
Tolson tallied 12 assists, eight digs and five kills in IU-K’s 3-0 loss to Indiana-South Bend (25-18, 25-22, 25-19) on Sept. 13.
CROSS COUNTRY
Javier Vasquez (Frankfort) – Indiana University-Kokomo
Vasquez’s Cougar team finished 19th out of 19 teams at the Indiana Intercollegiates Meet on Sept. 14 at Indiana State University.
Vazquez finished 136th out of 148 runners with a time of 33:04 in the 8K.
Kelby Jenkins (Frankfort) – University of Evansville
Jenkins finished ninth out of 214 runners in the Indiana Intercollegiates Meet on Sept. 14 at Indiana State University. Jenkins ran the 5K in 18:23, just 32 seconds behind the winner. Evansville was seventh out of 26 teams.
Natasha Greenwood (Frankfort) – Indiana Wesleyan University
Greenwood helped Indiana Wesleyan place second out of 12 teams in the Cedarville Friendship Invitational on Sept. 15. Greenwood was 19th out of 128 runners, with a time of 19:45 in the 5K.
Irma Bautista (Frankfort) – Danville Area Community College
Bautista helped Danville place 11th out of 24 teams in the Illinois Intercollegiates Meet on Sept. 14. Bautista placed 137th (21:53) out of 222 runners.
