CROSS COUNTRY
Kelby Jenkins (Frankfort) – University of Evansville
Jenkins was named the Missouri Valley Conference’s Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week after beating 114 other runners to win the Eastern Illinois University Walt Crawford Open on Sept. 7. Her time of 17 minutes, 56 seconds was more than eight seconds better than the runner-up.
Jenkins’ run is only the second sub-18 minute 5K in school history.
Javier Vasquez (Frankfort) – Indiana University-Kokomo
Vasquez finished 32nd with a time of 29:56 in the 8K at the Grace Invitational on Sept. 8, tops among IU-K runners.
Irma Bautista (Frankfort) – Danville Area Community College
Bautista finished 74th in the Walt Crawford Open with a time of 21:30.
Natasha Greenwood (Frankfort) – Indiana Wesleyan University
Greenwood finished 104th out of 313 runners at the Calvin College Invitational on Sept. 8 with a time of 20:02.
FOOTBALL
Johnny Varner (Frankfort) – Franklin College
Varner’s 11 total tackles in a 42-13 loss to Butler on Sept. 8 was tied for second among Franklin players.
VOLLEYBALL
Keri Friend (Rossville) – Ancilla College
Friend tallied 36 digs in Ancilla’s 3-1 victory (25-16, 25-16, 22-25, 25-22) over the Cedarville University junior varsity team on Sept. 8.
Heather Tolson (Clinton Central) – Indiana University – Kokomo
Tolson had 18 assists, four digs, three kills and two blocks in IU-K’s 3-0 win over Earlham College on Sept. 8. In a 3-0 loss to Ohio Wesleyan on that same day, she tallied six assists and six kills.
In a 3-0 win over Wilmington College on Sunday, Tolson finished with 15 assists, 10 digs and nine kills. In a 3-2 setback to Purdue-Calumet on Tuesday, she had 20 assists, 10 kills, three aces and five digs.
