Rossville 3, Tri-Central 0
Rossville defeated Tri-Central, 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-12) in a Hoosier Heartland Conference contest on Tuesday. Brinsley Cooper led the Hornets (6-1, 2-0 HHC) with 18 kills, five aces, three digs and three blocks. Mattie McGill tallied five kills, Emily Martin four kills, four digs and three blocks, Kacie McGill 12 assists and four digs, Michaela Miller nine assists and Jenny Erdman five digs.
Rossville’s junior varsity team (3-3) won, 3-0 (22-25, 25-9, 15-5). Danielle Memmer had four aces, two kills, one block, five assists and five digs; Brittyn Oliver nine aces, two kills and two assists; Paige Gibson seven aces and six digs; and Lauren Bright and Hannah Oliver had three kills each.
Clinton Central 3, Tipton 1
Stephanie Ellis led with 14 kills as Clinton Central defeated Tipton 3-1 (25-6, 25-20, 23-25, 25-15) on Tuesday.
Sydney Unger tallied 11 kills, five aces and four digs; Keily Campbell had 35 assists; Tenley Orr 14 digs, 11 kills and four aces; Ashley Crider four kills; Leana Evans seven digs and four aces; Demaris Crum eight digs and two aces; Bailey Barrentine nine digs and two aces; and Kylie Crenshaw four digs and two kills.
“We got off to a great start in set one. We were aggressive in every aspect of the game and kept Tipton on their heels,” said Central head coach Jessica Barrentine. “We served aggressively and competed from start to finish.”
The Bulldogs are now 7-3, and 2-0 in HHC play.
CC’s JV team won 2-0 (25-20, 25-21). Gracie Stewart tallied 19 assists, two aces and two kills; Abby Jordan had eight kills; Caitlyn Bradley five kills and three digs; Shelbi Brown seven digs and two aces; Aby Unger seven kills; Lexie McQuinn two digs; Avree Barrett one kill; Whitney Ridenour three aces and two kills; and Mikaela Reynolds one kill.
GIRLS SOCCER
Rossville 4, Delphi 0
Taylor Zink scored two goals to lead Rossville past Delphi, 4-0, on Tuesday.
It was the Hornets’ (3-2) third shutout in four games. Kelsey Cook and Lauralei Hutsell scored the other Hornet goals. Jessica Kyc, Brooke Hughes and Megan Matzen were credited with assists.
Rossville outshot Delphi 20-6 in scoring three of their four goals in the second half. Lindsay Fife had six saves in goal.
“The girls gutted out a 1-0 lead at half due to the hustle and determination of Kelsey Cook, who again played a complete game,” said Rossville head coach Adam Barrett. “Our defense has completely turned it around after our first game, only to give up one goal in the last four games. We have seven girls in the defense rotation and all of them are playing at a high level.”
GIRLS GOLF
Tipton 197, Frankfort 242
Frankfort fell to Tipton, 197-242, on Tuesday. Rel Weber led the Hot Dogs with a 51. Whitney O’Brien carded a 55, Heather Hunter 65 and Lauren King 71.
BOYS TENNIS
Southmont 4, Frankfort 1
Mason Townsley earned Frankfort’s only win against Southmont on Tuesday, a 7-5, 6-2 win over Austin Frederick at No. 1 singles.
Derek Timmons lost to Aaron Cox, 7-5, 6-2, at No. 2 singles; Dalton Bush lost to Nathan Truncone, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, at No. 3 singles; David Miller/Andrew Lynch lost to Zach Dingus/Austin Jones, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles; and Wyatt Holston/Dallas Alquezada lost to Wyatt Wadell/Justin Truncone, 6-2, 6-2.
Frankfort is now 3-4 overall and 0-2 in the Sagamore Athletic Conference.
In JV action, Jonatan Lopez lost to Lee Stockwell, 8-0, and Brandon Townsley lost to Stockwell, 8-5.
CROSS COUNTRY
Lehr 13th at state preview meet
Clinton Prairie senior Blake Lehr finished 13th with a time 19 minutes, 1 second in the Class 1A -3A state preview meet at Indiana State University on Saturday.
Drew Rodehan was 19th (19:38), Austin Biery 49th (21:03), Thomas Hill 51st (21:08), Cy Dieter 52nd (21:18), James Morris 57th (21:43) and Merrick McGraw 59th (22:03).
As a team, Prairie finished eighth out of 11 teams with 184 points. Mt. Zion (Ill.) was first with 44 points, Park Tudor was second (69) and Shakamak third (96).
The girls’ team only had four runners. Stephanie Schrock was 17th (25:05), Emma Tolley 18th (25:14), Chanda Brown 26th (26:17) and Paige Schoonveld 43rd (31:25).
JUNIOR HIGH CROSS COUNTRY
Bulldogs compete at Carroll
Carroll was the only team with a full roster in a three-team meet with Clinton Central and Sheridan on Tuesday. For CC, Payten Kimmell was eighth (17:06), Brogan Sheets was 11th (19:20) and Baileigh Richie 12th (19:52).
In the boys’ meet, Carroll was first (21) and Central second (38). Key Taulbee was third (12:10), Colton Crum fifth (12:47), Jake Speitel seventh (13:21), Kaleb Boone 11th (15:29), Tallon Surber 12th (16:38) and Kade Perlee 13th (19:43).
7TH GRADE VOLLEYBALL
Southmont 2, Frankfort 1
Ashley Leach led Frankfort in serving as the Hot Dogs’ A-team lost their season opener to Southmont, 2-1 (21-25, 25-7, 15-6) on Thursday.
The B-team won, 2-0 (25-22, 25-22). Kaylee Frazier had 10 aces and Emily Waggoner led the team defensively and was noted for her hustle.
