Just in taking a sneak peak at the performance list, a number of Clinton County girls’ track athletes will have the opportunity to shine at today’s Harrison Sectional.
Clinton Central junior Maisley Strange, a regional qualifier in the 200-meter dash last year, is seeded fourth (27.50 seconds) in that event but enters the sectional as the top seed in the 100 (13.10).
Clinton Prairie junior Kaylen White just missed advancing to the IHSAA State Finals last season, placing fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (47.67 seconds) at the regional, just .29 back of Fishers sophomore Erika Langhals. She enters the sectional as the No. 2 seed in the 300 hurdles (48.76) behind Harrison’s Georgia Lawlor, and is the top seed in the 100 hurdles (15.97). She’s also got an outside shot at cracking the top-four in two other events, the long jump (seventh, 15-7) and the 200 (seventh, 27.93).
The top four finishers in each event advance to next week’s West Lafayette Regional.
A number of county relay teams are also lurking in the top-four. If even one team advanced, that’d be an improvement from 2011, when no relay teams made it to the regional. Frankfort’s 3,200 relay team – which could be any combination of Dany Coomer, Cassidy Dubree, Sara Garcia, Andi Howell, Lyndsey Isenhower, Tisha Langkop, Merle Muller-Hansen and Ashley Torres – is seeded fifth (10:45.00) and Clinton Central’s team of Bailey Barrentine, Katelyn Ellis, Leilah Miller and Tenley Orr is seeded sixth (11:00.47).
Rossville’s 400 relay (Miriam Dunlap, Jenny Erdman, Kelly Ruff and Jensen Sheets, 53.69) and Frankfort’s 400 relay (Shannon Burns, Tanya Cervantes, Sam Henderson, Tisha Langkop or Adriana Olivas, 53.90) teams are seeded fifth and sixth, respectively. Frankfort’s 1,600 relay team (Coomer, Henderson, Isenhower, Langkop, 4:30) and CC’s 1,600 relay (Barrentine, Kylie Crenshaw, Demaris Crum, Katelyn Ellis or Strange, 4:30.52) are seeded fourth and fifth, respectively.
A handful of other individuals also have opportunities for advancement. Central freshmen Taylor Smith and Orr are seeded second with four others in the high jump at 4-10, Central sophomore Baylee Crum is tied for fourth in the pole vault (8-6), Rossville junior Lindsay Fife is fourth in the discus (102-9), Frankfort sophomore Ericka Ham is fourth in the shot put (37-1) and Clinton Prairie sophomore Katherine Wines is fifth in the shot (35-7).
