Tri-Central earned its first win of the season in a 7-0 defeat of Clinton Prairie on Wednesday. T-C’s Kody Key threw a three-hit shutout – striking out 11 – with the Gophers’ hits coming from Kevin Cripe, Dillon Mang and Kyle Horlacher. Cy Dieter took the loss, allowing seven runs (four earned) on 12 hits in 6 1/3 innings. Dieter struck out seven and only walked one.
Prairie is 4-11 and 1-6 in Hoosier Heartland Conference play.
Sheridan 6, Rossville 2
Sheridan 8, Rossville 1
Sheridan swept a doubleheader from Rossville on Tuesday, 6-2 and 8-1. The Hornets dropped to 2-6 in Hoosier Heartland Conference play.
GIRLS TENNIS
Lebanon 5, Frankfort 0
Lebanon defeated Frankfort, 5-0, in Sagamore Athletic Conference play on Wednesday. Alex Taylor lost to Bethany Moore, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles; Madison Jenkins lost to Jenna Dickerson, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 2 singles; Hannah Jenkins lost Lillian Anderson, 2-6, 6-0, 6-4, at No. 3 singles; Mady Corrie/Amelia Zurschmiede lost to Christen Martin/Sarah Curts, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles; and Edith Alanis/Hannah Calvert lost to Allyson Davis/Kaitlin Heick, 6-0, 6-1.
The Hot Dogs lost all five junior varsity matches as well. Esmeralda Santos lost to Molly Myers, 8-0, at No. 1 singles; Perla Castillo lost, to Taylor Dejka, 8-2, at No. 2 singles; Castillo lost to Shelby Dejka, 8-1, at No. 3 singes; Esmeralda Hernandez/Claudia Hernandez lost to Allie Ball/Staci Cline, 8-2, at No. 1 doubles; and Coral Santos/Gabby Tovar defeated Cora Richardson/Laken Chitwood, 8-2.
Rossville 3, Central Catholic 2
Rossville topped Lafayette Central Catholic, 3-2, on Wednesday. Winners for the Hornets were Ashley Rice, 3-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4, at No. 3 singles; Michelle Erdman/Laura McIlrath, 5-7, 7-5, 6-0, at No. 1 doubles; and Kacie McGill/Michaela Miller, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 2 doubles.
Kaitlyn Tappenden lost, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 singles, and Carrie Fiddler lost, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 2 singles.
BOYS GOLF
Lebanon 153, Frankfort 192
Frankfort fell to Lebanon, 153-192, on Wednesday at The Golf Preserve at Frankfort. Evan Kriel led the Hot Dogs with a 43, with one birdie. William Fischer carded a 46, Kyle Pugsley shot a career-low 51, Brett Waggoner carded a 52 and Shawn Chambers a 56.
Clinton Prairie 186, North Montgomery 196
Clinton Prairie advanced to 5-4 on the season with a 186-196 win over North Montgomery on Wednesday at Rocky Ridge.
Grant Doyle earned medalist honors with a 42. Blake Hankins carded a 45, Shane Thomas 49, Brandon Wines 50, Grant Miller 57 and Noah Freestone 60.
“I was pleased with Grant Doyle’s round, especially after he triple-bogeyed the first hole,” Prairie head coach Aaron Coe said. “He really focused and played well the rest of the way out. As a team, I am happy to get the win, but we need to be more consistent, putt better and keep the ball in play. We had too many penalty strokes and left a lot of strokes on the course as a result.”
Tri-Central 173, Clinton Central 210
Clinton Central lost to Tri-Central, 173-210, on Wednesday. Noah Gascho led the Bulldogs with a 44. Dakoda Stough carded a 52, Devon Henry 56 and Lane McCoy 58.
Tri-Central’s AJ Tentler was the medalist with a 42.
SOFTBALL
Lafayette Central Catholic 9, Clinton Prairie 2
Clinton Prairie dropped a non-conference game to Lafayette Central Catholic, 9-2, on Wednesday. Candace Pennington tallied a single and two RBIs to pace the Gophers. Kelsey Dunham, Carrie Funk and Abby Gingerich all singled, Lauren Scott singled and scored a run, and Jasmine Hanna scored a run.
