WILSON - Host Beddingfield was blanked 5-0 by Rocky Mount in a non-conference varsity girls soccer match on Friday afternoon.
The 2-A Eastern Plains Conference Bruins dropped to 4-5 as they lost their third straight. The 3-A Big East Conference Gryphons, ranked No. 12 among state 3-A teams, departed 7-1-1.
Rocky Mount outshot the Bruins 23-1 as Beddingfield junior goalkeeper Vielka Givens made five saves.
"They pretty much controlled the ball from the beginning of the game," Bruins head coach Glenn Griffin said of the Gryphons. "They scored three minutes in and again six minutes in and then worked on what they needed to work on from then on."
Griffin praised the player of junior midfielders Corina Botello and Ashley Batchelor.
The Bruins kick off EPC play at home Tuesday night at 7 against SouthWest Edgecombe. Rocky Mount will host Big East foe Wilson Fike Monday at 5.
