RALEIGH - Rocky Mount's boys basketball team will make a second straight appearance in the GlaxoSmithKline Invitational Basketball Tournament in Dec. Chapel Hill High School dropped out of the event, one of the most prestigious holiday prep basketball tournaments in the country, last week. With the star power of senior forward Tashawn Mabry on the roster, event officials offered the open spot to the Gryphons. LSU. Miami, Clemson are among favorites the 6-foot-5, 200-pounder has on his preferred list of schools. Mabry also is on target to break Phil Ford's career scoring record (2,093 pts.) at the school sometime around mid-season. RMHS' boys will again face Raleigh Word of God, which features prep All-America C.J. Leslie, in the opening round. Play will strart on Saturday, Dec. 26 and continue the following Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at Broughton High School's Holliday Gym, the largest on-campus gym in the state (3,000 capacity). Rocky Mount's boys will also miss the Nash County Basketball Tournament for the second straight season.
