Rocky Mount beats Northern Nash 7-2 in girls tennis

September 25, 2012
By Charles Alston of Rocky Mount High School

RED OAK - Rocky Mount pulled off a 7-2 Big East girls tennis win over Northern Nash Monday afternoon.

"A good match overall for a Monday, we never seem to play well on Mondays," said Rocky Mount head coach Barry Nethercutt, whose team moved to 9-2 overall and 4-2 in Big East play. "I thought Mary Blair (Thompson) played one of her best matches of the season - very clean and aggressive. Sam (Whicker) struggled a lot with her consistency today, but found out she can still win when not playing her best.

"I thought we looked sharp in doubles dropping just four games in three matches," Nethercutt added. "Hopefully, we finish the week out strong with Hunt and Fike, as neither match will be easy."
