GREENVILLE - J.H. Rose outplayed and outscored Rocky Mount in the second half of their game at Rose on Friday night, but a dismal first half created a hill too steep for the Rampants to climb.
The Gryphons shut Rose out in the first two quarters before withstanding a second half Rampant rally en route to a 28-14 victory that keeps Rocky Mount unbeaten this season.
Rose dropped its second straight and fell to 1-4.
“I’m disappointed, but we’ve got our open week next week and I’ve challenged them to come out and win a starting position,” JHR coach Todd Lipe said. “Right now, we’re fighting for the ability to go to the playoffs. I’m just trying to keep them (upbeat) and not get too down on them.”
