ROCKY MOUNT — The Todd Seymour era got off to a good start Monday as the Roanoke Rapids soccer team defeated 3A Rocky Mount 3-1 in Rocky Mount.
Seymour replaced Terry Frazier, who retired in June, as head coach. Frazier was the only soccer coach in program history. The sport was implemented at Roanoke Rapids in the fall of 1991.
On Monday, Johnny Tripp, Michael Ferguson and Javier Aparicio scored goals for the Yellow Jackets.
“It was a good team effort,” Seymour said. “It was a good way to start the season. Hopefully we can keep things rolling.”
Caleb Pratt got the start in goal for the defending Northern Carolina 2-A Conference champion Yellow Jackets. Roanoke Rapids (1-0) returns to action against J.F. Webb at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Hoyle Field in Roanoke Rapids.
