Coaches Association Coach of the Year with 105 votes. Chapel Hill's Tod Morgan received 91 votes, Millbrook's Scott McInnes recieved 80 votes and David May of Pine Forest received 55 votes. Gainey guided the Gryphons (27-3) to their second NCHSAA 3-A state title in three seasons with their 78-64 win over Hickory in Chapel Hill on March 10. Rocky Mount senior forward Terrill Hilliard, who scored 21 points and pulled down 11 rebouunds in the championship game, has been named to the first-team of the NCBCA All-State Boys Basketball Team. Hilliard led the Gryphons this past season in scoring (19.3 ppg.) and rebounding (8.7 rpg.).
