RMHS gets first Big East baseball win

March 31, 2012
By Charles Alston of Rocky Mount High School

ROCKY MOUNT - Will Edwards had a solid night on the hill and at the plate Thursday night in Rocky Mount's 8-4 win over rival Northern Nash at Gryphon Stadium - RMHS' first Big East win of the season.

Edwards went five innings and allowed three runs on six hits to get the win. He also went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored. Hunter Watson got the loss for the Knights.

Jeremy Johnson's leadoff solo home run to start the bottom of the first got the Gryphons in a hitting mood. The Gryphons (4-9, 1-4) recorded eight hits and scored one more run Thursday than in all of their previous four league games combined.

RMHS also took advantage of the Knights' five errors - the most Northern (6-4, 2-3) has had all season.

Rocky Mount will next hit the field in the first round of the Johnston County Baseball Invitational at South Johnston's Bruce Coats Field. The Gryphons will face Clayton at 2 p.m. Saturday.
