Nash County Post 58 tops Wilson 11-10 to win Area 1 East title

RED OAK - Collins Cuthrell (Rocky Mount) delivered a walkoff single to score Mike Williams (Northern Nash) from second in the bottom of the ninth to give Nash County Post 58 a wild come-from-behind 11-10 victory over Wilson Post 13 for the American Legion Area One East Division series title Friday evening at Northern Nash High School.
The critical contest was delayed nearly an hour by thunderstorms that rumbled through the area Friday evening.
Trailing 10-8 in this Game 5 matchup, Post 58 (17-4) scored three runs in the inning to give it its first division title since 1995. That season, it fell to Garner in a seven-game series 4-2.
This year, it wlll be a five-game series with Cary Post 67 starting Saturday evening at Northern Nash (7 p.m.) for the Area One crown and a berth in the state tournament.
