Home » Football NewsThe Rock Beats McCreary then Falls to SouthwesternOctober 25, 2009 Rockcastle County High SchoolAfter beating a good McCreary Central team at home during homcoming, the Rockets traveled to Southwestern where they came up short on the road against a good Warrior team. The McCreary Central game started out very competitive, with the visitors matching the Rock score for score for the first quarter. McCreary's stand-out quarterback showed his skills on several plays, breaking loose and cutting back across the field to score on long runs. However, the Rocket offense was too much for MCHS to handle as they drove down the field easily during the second half. Also, the defense figured out the MCHS scheme and shut down their quarterback. The Rockets won 42-14 in a blow-out on a wet field. Sophomore Clarke Rowe had another outstanding game with 300+ yards rushing and three touchdowns. John L. Saylor added 99 yards and a touchdown, and Dustin Bishop scrambled for a score. The win moved the team to 4-3 on the year. Against Southwestern, the Rock had a more difficult time. The Warriors have had a strong season with a record of 7-3 after the RCHS game, and they have beaten some good teams this year. Playing on the road, the Rock fought hard but wound up losing to Southwestern Pulaski by the score of 35-28. Next up for the Rock is the season finale against Whitely County. The game will be Senior Night, and everyone is invited out to send out Rocket seniors off with a win towards the post-season.
