Chambers and White lead the Red Riots over the Lynx

Orono - Juniors Mike Chambers and Justin White each scored 12 points to lead the Orono Red Riots over the Mattanawcook Academy Lynx 49-34 at Orono High School on Thursday night.
Orono and Mattanawcook Academy played in a makeup game that was originally scheduled for Wednesday night, but due to bad weather it had to be postponed to Thursday.
The Red Riots were coming off a tough loss to John Bapst on Monday.
“The loss at Bapst really motivated us and we were able to get off to a really strong start,” said Mike Chambers.
“Our big’s played really well. Jack Lucy, Jacob Earl and Mike (Chambers) all played well and played better defense,” said Justin White.
Seven players scored for Orono. Corey Riemersma had eight, Damien Heeger added seven, Jack Lucy with four and Jacob Earl and Colin Clement each chipped in with two points.
“We got off to a great start with a 13 point lead after the first allowing us to be able to control the tempo of the game,” said Orono boys basketball coach Jason Coleman.
The Red Riots led throughout most of the game and were able to hold the Lynx under 40 points.
Coleman talked about how impressed he was with how Mike Chambers has improved “He’s come along way.”
Justin and Mike Chambers talked about how these last few games are crucial down the stretch for the rest of the season.
Coleman reiterated those sediments “We have put ourselves in the last playoff spot as of right now. We need to continue to compete and try to win a couple more games and get some help along the way from the teams we have beaten. We have won four of our last five games.”
Riley Corburn led the Lynx with nine points. Gunnar Maxwell and Cody Hartford both scored six, Brett Crocker, Trysten Pelkey, Scott Jipson (all three finished with three points each) and Nick Haynes chipped in with one point.
Orono shot 70 percent (7-10) from the free throw line. The Lynx struggled from the free throw line shooting 25 percent (4-16) from the charity stripe.
Orono will finish up with a home game against Penquis for senior night and then travel to Dexter. Mattanawcook will finish the season with Schenck on Monday February 4th and Penquis on Wednesday February 6th.
