Old Town - Sophomore guard Eric Hoogterp scored a game high 22 points including six 3’s to lead the Hermon Hawks over the Old Town Coyotes 57-50 at Old Town High School on Saturday night.

Old Town was looking to get a split on the season losing the first meeting at Hermon on New Year’s Eve 59-51. The Coyotes were hoping the tides would turn their way, but the Hawks had other ideas.

Hoogterp hurt Old Town in the previous meeting at Hermon scoring 18 points and in this game it was much of the same.

The Coyotes had the lead at halftime 19-17, but were not able to capitalize in the second half.

“I thought we played really well defensively Fritz played great defense on Garrett Libby. Eric had a really good shooting night,” said Hermon boys basketball coach Mark Reed.

Reed was impressed with how well his post players played in the game.

Six players scored for the Hawks. Junior point guard Tyler Thayer finished with 11, Jacob Rioux added nine, Fritz Marseille with six, Joe Plummer had five and Ryan Kelly chipped in with two points.

Reed said “Tyler did really well in his leadership role.” Reed continued “He was not as productive offensively, but was able to organize us and get us good looks to basket.”

Senior forward Garrett Libby led the Coyotes with 21 points. Junior Garvey Melmed had 11, senior Eddie Gonnella added seven, junior Rodrigo Zertuche came off the bench and finished with seven and senior Cam Archer and junior Zach Bartlett each chipped in with two points.

The Hawks shot 55 percent (5-9) from the free throw line. The Coyotes shot 55 percent (6-11) from the charity stripe.

Hermon improved to 7-7 with four games left in the regular season and Old Town falls to 9-6 with three games remaining until playoffs.
