Big second half propels Edward Little boys over Brewer

Brewer - Senior forward Sean Ford scored nine of his game high 16 points in the second half to lead the Edward Little Red Eddies to a blowout win over the Brewer Witches 74-47 at Brewer High School on Friday night.
Brewer came on out fire in the first quarter taking an early lead, but the Red Eddies would change this throughout the rest of the game. The Witches led 18-13 at the end of the first quarter.
“Brewer did a phenomenal job of taking Quin away in our post. We tried several things to try to open that up and get different looks,” said Edward Little boys basketball coach Mike Adams.
The Red Eddies played better in the second quarter defensively limiting the Witches to seven points in the quarter. Edward Little outscored Brewer 13-7 in the quarter to have a 26-25 edge at halftime.
Edward Little had the best of the Witches in the second half scoring 47 points in the final two quarters. The Red Eddies were able to run the floor and take advantage of several Brewer turnovers. They used the 3-point shot to extend their lead in the third quarter.
Adams said “I thought the key was taking care of the basketball and not settling for shots off of one side.”
Ford led EL scoring seven points in the quarter. He hit two long range 3-pointers to give his team a 49-39 lead entering the final quarter.
The Red Eddies showed their great athletic ability in the final quarter. Eight players scored in the quarter for Edward Little. EL went 14-18 from the free throw line down the stretch to cruise for the win.
Ten players scored in the game for the Red Eddies. Senior forward Quinlan Leary scored 13 points, Mahod Mohamed, Ian Mileikis, and Lew Jensen each added 10, Nate Alexander had seven, Dalton Roberts with four, Kaleb Main added two and Calvin Willette and Luke Sterling each chipped in with one point.
“We have five or six players who are all pretty strong and good,” said Adams.
Senior forward Ian Burgess scored 16 points to lead Brewer. Junior guard Brendan Newcomb added 10, Jeff Weeks had seven, Freshmen Matt Pushard and Logan Rogerson each scored six points and Zachary Guelsian chipped in with two points.
Edward Little. shot 69 percent (20-29) from the free throw line. The Witches shot 38 percent (6-16) from the charity stripe.
The Red Eddies improved to a perfect 8-0 on the season and remain undefeated. Edward Little will host Mt.Blue on Tuesday January 8th while Brewer will travel to Erskine Academy.
