Maxim buzzer beater leads the Old Town girls to victory over Hermon

Old Town - On a night that the 2012 Class B softball team was honored in a pregame ceremony. The lady Coyotes took on the Lady Hawks of Hermon.

Kelsey Maxim hit a runner jumper with two seconds left in the game to lead the Old Town girls to a dramatic victory over the Hermon Hawks 45-44 at Old Town High School on Saturday night.

Hermon kept the game close throughout the entire game.

The Hawks tied the game at 35-35 after the third quarter. The Hawks trailed by five at the half, but managed to take the lead in the fourth quarter.

With less than a few seconds left in the game, Maxim was able to get the basketball and drive to the basket and make a running layup to help the coyotes get the victory over Hermon.

The Lady Coyotes were led by Maxim and Susie Outman who each scored 10 points. Freshman Mikayla Richards and sophomore Lauren Martin each had six points, Kelsey Hesseltine and Brooke Cole scored each added five and Britney Cousins chipped in with three points.

Raychel Alley, daughter of former high school standout Ray Alley, scored 15 points to lead the Hermon Lady Hawks. Sophomore forward Shelby Caron scored 12 points and Brittany Hamlin with seven points.

Old Town will travel to Ellsworth on Tuesday January 2nd. Hermon will host Presque Isle on Saturday January 5th.
