Thayer leads Hermon boys to third straight win

Hermon - Junior guard Tyler Thayer scored 14 of his game high 23 points in the second half to lead the Hermon Hawks to a close victory over the Washington Academy Raiders 56-50 at Hermon High School on Saturday night.
The first quarter was back and forth throughout, but the Raiders scored the last basket of the quarter. Washington Academy led 16-15 after one quarter.
Hermon turned up their defensive pressure in the second quarter limiting the Raiders to only five points. Thayer led the Hawks scoring seven points to help build their lead. Hermon outscored Washington Academy 14-5 in the quarter.
The Hawks led 29-21 at halftime.
The Raiders played much better in third quarter outscoring Hermon 16-12. Five different players scored in the quarter. Junior guard Fred MacLean led the Raiders with six points on two 3-pointers.
Hermon iced the game going 10-11 from the free throw line down the stretch. Thayer was 4-4 from the charity stripe in the quarter and 5-6 on the night.
The Hawks had three players in double figures. Senior forward Fritz Marseille scored 16 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and went 4-4 from the line in the game. Junior guard Jacob Rioux added 10, Joey Martin with four and and Eric Hoogterp chipped in with three points.
Senior guard Andrew Farnsworth led the Raiders with 11 points. Gage Feeney scored nine points, Jacob Schoppee had seven, Austin Seavey, Dustin Emery and Sante Sanchez-Auld each added six points and Tyler Varney chipped in with five points.
Hermon shot 86 percent (13-15) from the free throw line. Washington Academy shot 80 percent (4-5) from the charity stripe.
The Hawks improve to 3-2 and will host Old Town on Monday December 31st. The Raiders will travel to John Bapst on Friday December 28th.
