Orono - Orono and the Mattanawcook Academy girls went into last night’s contest looking to make another run to the tournament. The Red Riots are hoping to make it back to the Eastern Maine Championship where they were upset by Central by one. Orono has one lone senior on the team in Jillian Woodward and she looked like she picked up where she left off from last year.

Woodward led the Red Riots with 15 points and 14 rebounds along with shooting 7-8 from the free throw line. Freshman Hannah Clement added 10 points and sophomore Katie Sypher and junior Elea Kass each scored seven points.

The Lady Lynx from Mattanawcook Academy kept the game close throughout.

Taylor Blood led Mattanawcook Academy with 11 points. Harli Maxwell added 10 points and Ashley Libby finished with six points (2-2 from the free throw line). Other scorers for the Lynz were Katie Krapf who finished with five points (1-4 from the free throw line) and Carly McDonald chipped in with two points. It was not enough however and they fall short with the final score Orono 36 Mattanawcook Academy 32.

Orono will face George Stevens Academy at home on Tuesday December 11th.  Mattanawcook Academy will look to get their first win when they travel to Central on Tuesday night.
