Hampden boys favorite in class "A"
November 25, 2012By Ryan Kimball of RK Sports Productions
Hampden - The Hampden Broncos boys basketball team has one of the deepest teams in the state. Russ Bartlett's club is coming off a season where they went to the state championship, but unfortunately lost to Deering 59-50.
The Broncos return basically their entire team combined with three of the best freshmen in the state coming off the bench, which makes them dangerous this season. They have nine players back from last year's team, where anyone could start on any given game and it would not affect their play.
Zach Gilpin is one of Hampden's took players as he can take over the game at any moment. The three freshmen on the team this season are Nick Gilpin, Jake Black and Brendan McIntyre, who all could start on any other team, but they come off the bench which is a good problem to have if you are the Broncos. All three freshmen played well today in the round robin presason tournament at Hampden Academy, which is great to see if you are coach Bartlett.
I talked to coach Bartlett before their games today and he was excited about the season. He knows there is a lot of talented teams in class "A", but he knows they have the team to compete on any given night.
