Portland - Senior running back Donnie Boyer rushed for 111 yards on 28 carries and three touchdowns to lead the Foxcroft Academy to the Class “C” state championship title. The Ponies defeated the Winslow Black Raiders 22-20 for their second state championship in the last six years.

Foxcroft came out throwing the ball changing their game plan to catch Winslow off guard. Although Ponies quarterback Hunter Law completed four of his five passes for 52 yards, there was no score at the end of the first quarter.

The Ponies finally cashed in on their first drive on the second quarter to take an early lead. Boyer took the handoff from Law walking in from one yard out to give Foxcroft a 7-0 lead with 7:22 to go in the second quarter.

After an eight play 39 yard drive, the Winslow Black Raiders tied the game at 7-7 with 2:15 to go in the first half. Senior fullback Zachary Guptill ran up the middle for a three yard touchdown run. Guptill rushed for 30 of the 39 yards for Winslow.

The Black Raiders made a great defensive stand forcing the Ponies to punt getting the ball back with 38 seconds left in the first half. Winslow fumbled the ball on the first play from scrimmage, which costed them the game. Foxcroft senior defensive tackle Louis LaFache jumped on the ball to set up the Ponies on the eight yard. Three plays later, Boyer recorded his second touchdown on the day on another one yard run to give the Ponies an 15-7 lead with 13.7 seconds to go until halftime.

Boyer ran from three yards out for his third touchdown of the game to give Foxcroft 22-7 lead with 9:24 to go in the third quarter. This was the game winning score.

With the score 22-13 late in the fourth quarter, the Black Raiders cut the deficit to two. Sophomore quarterback Bobby Chenard connected with tight end Owen Dutil for a three yard touchdown cutting the deficit to 22-20.

Foxcroft was able to run the clock out with Boyer rushing for 30 yards in the final two and a half minutes not allowing Winslow to get the ball back.

The Ponies were led by quarterback Law who passed for 116 yards completing seven out of his 14 passes. Senior wide receiver Ryan Rebar had six catches for 108 yards for Foxcroft.

Winslow was led by Zachary Guptill who rushed for 109 on 26 carries and two touchdowns. Guptill touchdown runs were from seven and three yards out.
