Basketball Tigers Lose OFSAA Final
March 15, 2010Ridley College
The Senior Boys Basketball team's thrilling season came to an abrupt end tonight in Sturgeon Falls losing the OFSAA gold medal game to Ashbury College 53-37. Ashbury was a worthy #1 seed as they dissected the Tigers defense with sound ball movement, good decision making and exceptional outside shooting.
Ridley struggled with their game from the opening tip and seemed to never really get on track. Tiger basketball prides itself on hard work and hustle but both seemed to be lacking this evening. Cooper Rigg had 13 and Geno Bullard 12 points. The sign of a good young team is one that learns from their mistakes and this team will be more then ready to take up the chase in 2011.
The coaches would like to thank the players for a wonderful season chalked full of life long sport memories --both highs and lows. As coaches we've watched the players come together as a tight knit team, face obstacles and challenges presented to them with energy and passion and have accepted both wins and tough losses with the class and dignity required of a first team athlete representing our school. The players and coaches made a commitment early this year to give up a week of their March break in support of their goals and to represent our school and we should all be very proud of their efforts on behalf of Ridley. In short this group of student athletes "get it"! I would also be remiss if I didn't commend the team on a season high 83% team average on the March report cards with a promise to continue to fine tune their efforts in this area as well moving into next season.
Special mention must also go out to all of the parents who made the northern trip and to Mr. Holmes who wore his orange and black with pride all week in support of the school that he so deeply loves. Also to graduating seniors Nick Chilvers, Will Curtosi, Swayon Leung, Alfred Chen, Lachlan Robertson and Ken Wismer....thanks for your efforts on behalf of Tiger basketball. The future is indeed bright with 4 of the starting 5 returning next year to do it all again!
