The West Virginia Miners (28-15) beat the Richmond RiverRats (14-26) 9-5 on Wednesday at McBride Stadium behind Rob Youngblood, who collected three hits.
He singled in the second, seventh, and ninth innings.
The Richmond RiverRats' lineup had no answer for Dalton Thompson. The Richmond RiverRats managed just one hit off of the the West Virginia Miners' pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out two during his 3 1/3 innings of work.
Brendon Neel racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Richmond RiverRats. He homered in the first inning and singled in the sixth inning.
Even though Cody Smith allowed five runs over four innings he still recorded the victory, his fourth of the season. He struck out three, walked one and surrendered four hits.
Reed Evans (2-3) took the loss for the Richmond RiverRats. He allowed six runs in five innings, walked three and struck out four.
The West Virginia Miners hammered the Richmond RiverRats pitching as six hitters had a field day, combining for 12 hits, seven RBIs and nine runs scored.
