Hot-hitting Welch earns Prospect League weekly honor

Jake Welch has provided Richmond with a steady presence at the top of the RiverRat lineup.

Last week, he provided them with a little bit of pop, too.

Welch was named the Prospect League’s Hitter of the Week on Tuesday after he batted .448 with three home runs, five doubles and six RBIs for the week ending July 22.

Welch and the Richmond offense have helped the RiverRats to sole possession of first place in the East Division in the second half of the season.

“He’s just been really solid for us,” said Richmond general manager and co-owner Deanna Beaman.

Indeed he has. Welch is hitting .320 for the summer with 12 doubles, seven home runs and 24 RBIs.
