Steady Ruckel finishing up time with RiverRats

Garrett Ruckel’s summer with the RiverRats is coming to a close.

The catcher from Jacksonville University wouldn’t be opposed to another season with Richmond’s Prospect League franchise — and he could be back even sooner if the ’Rats make a run to the playoffs.

Ruckel said that tonight’s home game with McBride Stadium may be his last. Ruckel is leaving soon for a mission trip to Nicaragua, though he’s scheduled to return in early August.

The final game of Richmond’s regular season is Aug. 6 at Slippery Rock. Ruckel may be back with the team if the RiverRats make the postseason.

“I’m driving back to Jacksonville on Wednesday. Hopefully we can get a ‘W,’” Ruckel said of tonight’s game.
