'Rats roll past Ironmen

July 18, 2012
Richmond RiverRats

Tyler Miller made a memorable debut at McBride Stadium.

A new addition to Richmond’s pitching staff, Miller struck out four straight in a relief appearance, three of which defused a tense situation in the top of the seventh.

Miller helped an early three-run home run by Ray Delvalle stand up as the RiverRats stopped Lorain County 6-2 on Tuesday in the RiverRats’ first home game in more than a week.

“He did a phenomenal job. He came in for a tough situation,” Richmond manager Tyler Lairson said of Miller.

Delvalle staked the RiverRats to a three-run lead in the bottom of the second. Richmond’s No. 9 hitter crushed Mattius DeDoes’ two-out delivery over the left field fences and onto Peacock Road.
