Boys Soccer

August 6, 2012
By Chip Gull of Rensselaer Central High School/Middle School

The Rensselaer Central Boys Soccer team began their season July 30th by starting off with two days of conditioning.  The players completed 6 days of two a day practices of about two hours each.  The majority of this time was used for conditioning and skill work.  Pictured above is returning Senior Troy Phillips who will return as the teams leading scorer from two years ago.  Others pictured in the photo are senior teammate Isaac Hillan and sophomores Coy McCalister and Chandler Gull.

The players continue this week preparing for their first game.  This year's team will have more balanced chemistry within the grades that the players are in which should pay dividends at the tail end of the season.  The team consists of 5 Seniors, 6 Juniors, 9 Sophomores, and 2 Freshmen.  Out of these 22 players, 15 are returning letter winners.  Standouts from last years team are 2 All-Conference players Chase Klingler and Brooks Rodibaugh.  New players to the team who will see a good deal of playing time are Freshman Pierce Van Houten, Sophomore Nathan Myers, Juniors Jacob Foster & Tanner Stone, and Senior John Freebourn.
