Greg Hardy Wins 2 Mile At Old Colony League Outdoor Championship

May 22, 2010
By Walter Price of Barnstable High School

Though bothered with a digestive ailment and some slight physical concerns prior to the race, Barnstable High School junior Greg Hardy won the boys' two mile run (shown on the left approaching the finish in the enclosed picture) at the Old Colony League Outdoor Championship Meet in Taunton on Thursday.   It completed an undefeated season for him in the event and with a strong run on Saturday at the NDA Last Chance Meet in Hingham, there is hope that he will qualify for next Friday's MIAA DI Championship Meet in Somerville.

Hardy stated before his race that he felt uncomfortable during his warmup and might abandon a more aggressive approach plan to simply win the race.   "I probably ate something today that isn't agreeing with me" was Hardy's comment prior to and after the race.   The thought also might've been that his meal at lunch was still in full digestive state and given the early start of the race made it more difficult for him early on.   However he did respond later in the meet with a very impressive opening leg on the 4x800 relay.

BHS sophomore Seth Etienne, in only his secod meet of the season running the high hurdles, captured fourth place in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 17.5.   An improvement of 1.6 seconds from a week ago.
