DEMMINGS HAS 25 IN WIN

Behind a 24-3 first-half run, the women's basketball team won its season opener Sunday with a 74-55 decision over Ball State at WSU's Nutter Center.
Mercedes Miller gave Ball State a 13-10 lead with a three at the 13:14 mark of the first half, but the Raiders followed with the 24-3 run over the next nine minutes, 10 of those points coming from Kim Demmings and eight by Breanna Stucke, to go up 34-16. Demmings later hit three foul shots with two seconds remaining to put WSU up 39-21 at the break.
WSU shot 47 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes and was eight of nine at the foul line while holding the Cardinals to just 24 percent shooting and two for six at the stripe.
Ball State closed to within 11 midway in the second half, but could get no closer as Wright State held its biggest lead of the night in the final minute at 74-53.
The Raiders shot 45 percent overall and were 21 of 32 on free throws while BSU shot 31 percent for the game and was eight of 15 at the line. Wright State led 30-20 in points in the paint and 21-12 in points off of turnovers.
Demmings, in her collegiate debut, led all scorers with 25 points while Molly Fox posted a double-double of 18 points and 14 rebounds for WSU.
Wright State (1-0) hosts Delaware State on Saturday, November 19, at 7:00.
