The Spartans are coming off a 2-8 season and the main pieces are in place to be a much better football team in 2014. Junior RB Colton Gonzalez is the top returning ball carrier after rushing for 1,047 yards and scoring seven TD’s as a sophomore. Also returning will be RB Micah Kelly (291 yards) and QB Tyler Kendall (657 yards 7 TD’s).

CONNERSVILLE HASN'T BEATEN RICHMOND SINCE 1939.

RICHMOND OPENED WITH A WIN FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 1998.

THIS GAME MARKED THE OPENING OF THE RENOVATED LYBOULT STADIUM.

Richmond opened the scoring on just the 2nd play of the game when FB Nate Trawick ran for a 33 yard run to set up Derek Williams' TD run from 4 yards out. Williams will go down in RHS Football history for scoring the first TD on the new turf at Lyboult.

QB Tyler Ripperger threw the first TD pass of the season, a 79-yard scoring strike to Brendan Hegg. Richmond led 14-0.

Richmond's defense stopped Connersville in the first quarter when the Spartans drove deep into Richmond territory. Connersville was called for holding and LB Morgun Bragg came up with a sack.

Richmond scored the only TD in the third quarter when Ripperger hit Autonio Brown for a 35 yard TD strike...Richmond led 21-0.

Richmond's defense stopped Connersville again in the fourth quarter on a fourth-and-goal. The Spartans made it to the 8-yard line before LB Blair Vanlandingham sacks QB Grant West.

Connersville scored their only TD when West hit Micah Kelley for a 25-yard TD pass after Richmond threw an interception.

Richmond's final 2-points came on a safety when West was flagged for intentional grounding in the end zone.
