FROM THE PRESS BOX
Friday night’s Richmond-Muncie Central football game will have more media attention that many college football games. There will be three radio stations expected, two video internet stations, two newspapers and two TV stations, one from Indianapolis and one from Dayton, in attendance. Who knows, if we play our cards right, we may see ESPN get into the act!
With all that attention, every move will be under the microscope. Both teams are undefeated in the NCC and both are hoping to jump into the driver’s seat in their quest for a conference championship.
Here is what I do know going into this game; Richmond is starting to put everything together at the right time. We are almost halfway through the season and at this time teams are looking to shore up all their weaknesses and prepare for the sectional tournament.
Richmond’s offense is now clicking with Jordan Christian at QB. His ability to throw the football is opening up the running attack. No, it’s not the running game Coach Holeva is happy with yet, but it’s getting better. The Red Devils offense can be very explosive because they have several weapons including the tight end now.
The Red Devils defense is better than the early numbers were showing. The offense left the defense is tough situations when they couldn’t move the football. Now the defense is playing on a longer field and shutting teams down. The front four are making life easier for the linebackers and the secondary.
How good is Muncie Central? Better than they were last year, by far! The Bearcats have several offensive weapons including QB Billy Walker, WR Timmric Barrett, WR Joe Williams and RB Jaylen White. Richmond’s defense will have to stop the “Wildcat” offense the Bearcats like to run. If the Red Devils don’t make the correct reads, the Bearcats can score points.
Muncie Central has won three straight after beating New Castle last week. The Red Devils have now won 10 straight NCC contests. I am not totally convinced on just how good the Bearcats are, but we will find out Friday night.
