THE COACHING STAFF DESERVED BETTER
September 4, 2013Richmond High School
The Biggest questions for Richmond as they prepare for Anderson Friday night:
Can the Red Devils forget what happened last Friday at New Palestine? Yes, it wasn’t the night the Devils expected but they can’t dwell on the loss. They didn’t dwell on the first two losses last season and went on to win the NCC. Lesson learned and now forget the loss.
Have the Red Devils found a QB? In all fairness to Tyler Ripperger, the Red Devils played about as bad as they could have last week. Tyler can still be an effective QB, but maybe a chance to step back and reflect will help his confidence. Jordan Christian played well in the second half last Friday and will get the start against the Indians.
Will the underclassmen play better? Several underclassmen didn’t play well last Friday and that left the Red Devils vulnerable in too many areas. The seniors on this team deserve better!
Can the Red Devils run the football? So far the run offense hasn’t hit its stride. Nate Trawick leads Richmond with only 61 yards in two games and Morgun Bragg has 55 yards so the fullback position seems to be playing well but Richmond needs better production from their tailbacks. Ty Williams is averaging on 2.4 yards per carry and Blake Mullins is averaging only .67 per carry.
Can the offense play better to help the defense? Richmond’s defense has been playing with a short field a lot in the first two games and the offense hasn’t had many sustained drives. If the offense can produce that will give the defense a much needed rest.
Will Richmond’s pass defense perform better? Several times Dragon receivers were wide open or got behind the secondary last week.
Can Richmond tackle better against the Indians? Richmond’s inability to tackle last week cost them several opportunities to stop New Pal for a loss or no gain.
Can the Red Devils play with more energy and motivation? Coach Holeva mentioned on Monday’s show he felt a lack of energy on Friday night. This is a good coaching staff, one of the best football staffs we have had in a long time, but they can only do so much. The players need self- motivation and play with a sense of urgency.
Will this team eventually be a good football team? I have watched this team for several weeks and I believe they can be a very good football team but if they don’t believe in the system or they don’t follow their assignments or they fail to get better every week, they can be an average football team. Yes, they have played only two games this season, but we saw some things last week that should cause concern.
Will this squad give 100% every game? Coach Holeva and his staff deserves better than what they got last week especially from the underclassmen!
