Redskins QB Robert Griffin III underwent surgery to repair both the lateral collateral and anterior cruciate ligaments in his right knee.

 

Knicks star forward Carmelo Anthony has been suspended for one game without pay by the NBA for his confrontation with Celtics forward Kevin Garnett.

 

The Baseball Writers' Association of America will not be electing anyone to the Hall of Fame.  Eligible candidates needed to be named on 75 percent of the 569 ballots submitted by members of the BBWAA, meaning 427 votes were necessary for election.  Astros second baseman Craig Biggio came closest by getting 68 percent of the vote.

 

The National Hockey League has ratified a new CBA.  The Board of Governors gave its approval by a 30-0 vote, and it was formally announced by Board chairman and Bruins owner Jeremy Jacobs. The last step to the start of the season will be the NHLPA's ratification of the agreement.

 

The Eagles are scouring the college football ranks to find their next coach. The name on the team's radar is Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly. Sources say the Eagles are interested in the Notre Dame coach and have made overtures to Kelly.
