Quarterback PEYTON MANNING of the Denver Broncos, defensive end J.J. WATT of the Houston Texans and kicker JOSH BROWN of the Cincinnati Bengals are the AFC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Month for December, the NFL announced today.

 

OFFENSE: QB PEYTON MANNING, DENVER BRONCOS

  • For the month, Manning completed 123 of 174 passes (70.7 percent) for 1,399 yards with 11 touchdowns versus three interceptions and a 108.4 passer rating as he helped the Broncos to a 5-0 record in December.
  • Passed for three touchdowns and a 100+ passer rating in three of his five games in December.
  • In Week 13, Manning led the Broncos to a 31-23 win over Tampa Bay. With the victory, Denver clinched the AFC West and Manning tied Pro Football Hall of Famer JOE MONTANA for the second-most division titles in NFL history with nine.
  • In Week 17, Manning earned AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors, passing for 304 yards with three touchdowns versus zero interceptions and a 144.8 passer rating in the Broncos’ 38-3 win over Kansas City. It marked Manning’s 73rd career game with at least three passing TDs. Manning passed BRETT FAVRE (72) for the most such games in NFL history.
  • Manning had an AFC-best in completion percentage (70.7 percent), touchdown passes (11) and passer rating (108.4) in December.
  • ·         In his 15th season from Tennessee, this is Manning’s sixth career Offensive Player of the Month Award, tying TOM BRADY for the most AFC Offense Player of the Month awards since the accolade was instituted in 1986.
  • ·         Manning most recently won the award in October of 2012.

 

DEFENSE: DE J.J. WATT, HOUSTON TEXANS

  • Watt registered 27 tackles, six sacks, four forced fumbles and three passes defensed in December.
  • Watt’s six sacks and four forced fumbles were NFL-bests in December.
  • In Week 13, Watt recorded six tackles, two sacks and one forced fumble in the Texans’ 24-10 win at Tennessee.
  • In Week 15, Watt earned AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors, registering a team-high 10 tackles, one forced fumble and tied a career-best with three sacks in the Texans’ 29-17 win over Indianapolis. With the win, Houston clinched the AFC South title for the second consecutive season.
  • He posted an NFL-best 20.5 sacks in 2012, tied for the sixth-most in a season since sacks became an official statistic in 1982.
  • Watt was selected to his first career Pro Bowl.
  • In his second season from Wisconsin, this is Watt’s second career Player of the Month Award. He previously won the award in September of 2012.

 

SPECIAL TEAMS: K JOSH BROWN, CINCINNATI BENGALS

  • Signed by the Bengals on December 6, Brown has made 11 of 12 field goals for the month, tied for the most in the NFL in December.
  • Brown’s 91.7 field goal percentage ranked third in the AFC in December.
  • In Week 16, Brown made two of three field goals, including a game-winning 43-yard field goal in the Bengals’ 13-10 win at Pittsburgh. He registered his eighth career game-winning field goal in the final minute of regulation or in overtime.With the win, Cincinnati clinched a postseason berth in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1981-82.
  • ·         In his 10th season from Nebraska, this is Brown’s second career Player of the Month Award. He previously won the award in 2008 (October) with the Rams.
