AFC Players of the Week

December 5, 2012
Richmond High School

Quarterback BRADY QUINN of the Kansas City Chiefs, defensive end CARLOS DUNLAP of the Cincinnati Bengals and kicker SHAUN SUISHAM of the Pittsburgh Steelers are the AFC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week for games played the 13th week of the 2012 season (November 29, December 2-3), the NFL announced today.

OFFENSE: QB BRADY QUINN, KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

  • Quinn completed 19 of 23 passes (82.6 percent) for 201 yards with two touchdowns versus zero interceptions and a 132.1 passer rating in the Chiefs’ 27-21 win over Carolina.
  • Quinn’s 82.6 completion percentage led the NFL in Week 13 and was the highest in a game by a Chief in franchise history. He had a streak of 10 consecutive completions at one point in the game.
  • His 132.1 passer rating ranked second in the NFL and first in the AFC in Week 13.
  • Helped the Chiefs register their first win at Arrowhead Stadium this season.
  • In his sixthseason from Notre Dame, this is Quinn’s first Offensive Player of the Week Award. He is the first Chiefs quarterback to win Offensive Player of the Week honors since DAMON HUARD in 2006 (Week 5).
  • He joins running back JAMAAL CHARLES (Week 3) as the second Chief to win AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors this season.

DEFENSE: DE CARLOS DUNLAP, CINCINNATI BENGALS

  • Dunlap registered five tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one pass defensed in the Bengals’ 20-13 win at San Diego.
  • With 4:01 remaining in the fourth quarter, Dunlap sacked and stripped Chargers quarterback PHILIP RIVERS, recovering the ball at the San Diego 15. The takeaway resulted in a 24-yard field goal by kicker MIKE NUGENT and extended the Bengals lead to 20-13.
  • Dunlap helped hold the Chargers to 297 total yards (251 passing, 46 rushing) for the game.
  • Part of a defense that leads the NFL with 39 sacks this season.
  • Helped the Bengals win their fourth consecutive game.
  • In his third season from Florida, this is Dunlap’s first career Defensive Player of the Week Award.
  • He joins defensive end MICHAEL JOHNSON (Week 3) as the second Bengal to win AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors this season.

SPECIAL TEAMS: K SHAUN SUISHAM, PITTSBURGH STEELERS

  • ·         Suisham connected on all three field goals, including a game-winning 42-yard field goal as time expired in the Steelers’ 23-20 win over the Baltimore Ravens.
  • ·         Suisham registered his seventh career game-winning field goal and third this season.
  • ·         Extended his streak to 13 consecutive field goals.
  • ·         Through Week 13, Suisham has made 24 of 25 field goals (96 percent), the highest percentage in the NFL.
  • ·         In his eighth season from Bowling Green, this is Suisham’s third career Special Teams Player of the Week Award. He most recently won the award in Week 5 of the 2012 season.
