MEN'S BASKETBALL: INDIANA WESLEYAN 92, IU EAST 76

December 5, 2012
Richmond High School

MARION, Ind. - The Red Wolves landed some punches in the middle rounds, but lost on
points in the end.
The Indiana University East men's basketball team fell 92-76 at Indiana Wesleyan
University on Dec. 4 in a matchup of NAIA Division II Top 25 teams.
The 23rd-ranked Red Wolves fell to 5-3. The third-ranked Wildcats improved to 10-1.
"We had the lead, we had opportunities, and overall we played well," said IU East
coach Mark Hester. "We just had breakdowns at the end. We just let up, just
stopped."
Hester's pregame message ended with a reminder that one fist is mightier than five
individual fingers.
IU East impressively shook off Indiana Wesleyan's 15-2 uppercut to start the game.
The Red Wolves gradually feinted and jabbed their way back to tie things up twice in
the final five minutes of the first half.
IU East then landed a near-knockout of its own - including a stretch of seven points
in 36 seconds - to surge ahead 61-51 with 12 minutes remaining.
"We fought the whole time," said junior forward Josh Cook. "We came back from 15-2
down and fought through that. If we can do that, and learn to do that at the end, we
can be great."
Indiana Wesleyan answered with a 30-8 blitz, resulting in an 81-69 Wildcat lead with
four minutes remaining.
IU East would get no closer than nine the rest of the way.
"It's a tough place to play and they're a tough team," Hester said. "They are No. 3
in the nation for a reason."
Cook (Gas City, Ind./Mississinewa High School), whose hometown is a few minutes from
Indiana Wesleyan, led IU East with 16 points.
Jordan Weidner led Indiana Welseyan with 30 points.
IU East returns to action Dec. 7 and 8 at the Taylor University Ivanhoe
Invitational. The Red Wolves open the tournament against Trinity International
University at 8 p.m. on Dec. 7.
