THERE WILL BE A LOT OF MEDIOCRE FOOTBALL COMING

The College Bowl season is coming.  It is coming as sure as higher taxes and Obamacare.  The problem is, I can’t stomach 35 bowl games.  When will the madness stop?   Probably never.  As long as money is the key factor, there will always be meaningless bowl games.  Yes, I have heard the argument that it isn’t meaningless for the teams that are going bowling.  They should be rewarded for a long hard and successful season.  My question remains this,  what constitutes a successful season?

When you look at the teams in this year’s bowl games, there are 12 that have 6-6 records and one that is 6-7, Georgia Tech!!!.  The last time I checked, 6-6 wasn’t a successful season.  But we seem to believe being a .500 team is now a success.   When are we going to quit accepting average?  When are we going to stop rewarding average?    Here are the 12 teams that are going bowling, receiving bowl money and hoping you will tune in to watch them play average football…Virginia Tech, Duke, SMU, Central Michigan, Minnesota, Arkansas State, Rice,  Air Force, Michigan State, Iowa State, Purdue, Pittsburgh, Georgia Tech and Ole Miss.   The college football scene has become ridiculous.   No team with a 6-6 record should go anywhere except home to work on getting better for next season.

So here are the match-ups that begin December 15 and my watch probability:

NEVADA VS ARIZONA….A little

TOLEDO VS UTAH STATE….None

CENTRAL FLORIDA VS BALL STATE…Probably, because of Ball State

BYU VS SAN DIEGO STATE…None

EAST CAROLINA VS LOUISIANA-LAFAYETTE…None

WASHINGTON VS BOISE STATE… A little

FRESNO STATE VS SMU… None

WESTERN KENTUCKY VS CENTRAL MICHIGAN…Are you kidding?

SAN JOSE STATE VS  BOWLING GREEN…What else is on TV?

CINCINNATI VS DUKE…Perhaps because of Cincy

BAYLOR VS UCLA…Very little

OHIO VS LOUISIANA-MONROE…Don’t think so

RUTGERS VS VIRGINIA TECH…A little because Rutgers is coming to the Big Ten

MINNESOTA VS TEXAS TECH…Nope

RICE VS AIR FORCE…two 6-6 teams?  I would rather watch Jerry Springer

WEST VIRGINIA VS  SYRACUSE…Maybe

NAVY VS ARIZONA STATE…very little

TEXAS VS OREGON STATE…..It will take a lot to get motivated to watch

TCU VS MICHIGAN STATE….Only because of the Big Ten

NC STATE VS VANDERBILT…Nope

GEORGIA TECH VS USC….A 6-7 team in a bowl game?  Come on!!!

IOWA STATE VS TULSA…No way!!

LSU VS CLEMSON….Very likely.

MISSISSIPPI STATE VS NORTHWESTERN…Likely

PURDUE VS OKLAHOMA STATE…Only to see why Purdue is in a bowl game!

GEORGIA VS NEBRASKA….Yes

SOUTH CAROLINA VS MICHIGAN…Yes

WISCONSIN VS STANFORD…Yes

NORTHERN ILLINOIS VS FLORIDA STATE…Yes, to see what loophole got the Huskies into the Orange Bowl

LOUISVILLE VS FLORIDA…Yes

OREGON VS KANSAS STATE….Yes

TEXAS A&M VS OKLAHOMA…Yes

PITTSBURGH VS OLE MISS…Another 6-6 match-up.  Ain’t going to happen!!!

KENT STATE VS ARKANSAS STATE…Nah. 

NOTRE DAME VS ALABAMA…A big yes!!
