Wide receiver CALVIN JOHNSON of the Detroit Lions, linebacker ALDON SMITH of the San Francisco 49ers and linebacker DEKODA WATSON of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the NFC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Month for November (November 1-26), the NFL announced today.

OFFENSE: WR CALVIN JOHNSON, DETROIT LIONS

  • Johnson had 32 receptions for an NFL-best 619 yards (19.3 average) and three touchdowns during November. His 154.8 yards per game average led the NFL and that mark was 51.8 yards more than anyone else in the NFC.

  • He had at least 125 receiving yards in all four games, including three games with at least 140 yards and a TD.
  • In Week 10, Johnson had 12 catches for 207 yards and a touchdown. He has three career 200-yard receiving games, tied for the fifth-most in NFL history. Alworth holds the NFL record with five such games.
  • On Thanksgiving, he became the fifth-fastest receiver in NFL history to reach 7,000 career yards (87 games). He joins Alworth (72), TORRY HOLT (82), RANDY MOSS (83) and Pro Football Hall of Famer JERRY RICE (83).
  • In his sixth season from Georgia Tech, this is Johnson’s first career Player of the Month Award.
  • Johnson is the first Lion to be named Offensive Player of the Month since Pro Football Hall of Famer BARRY SANDERS (December 1997). Johnson and Sanders (six times) are the only players in franchise history to be named Offensive Player of the Month.

DEFENSE: LB ALDON SMITH, SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

  • Smith, whose team only played three games in November, led the NFL with nine sacks during the month and totaled 5.5 more sacks than anyone else in the NFC. He also had 18 tackles and two forced fumbles.
  • He recorded at least 1.5 sacks in all three games, including a career-high 5.5 sacks in Week 11. His 5.5 sacks were the most ever on Monday Night Football and he earned NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors for his performance. Smith is one of only four players to register at least 5.5 sacks in a game.
  • Smith, who has 30.5 career sacks, reached 30 sacks in his 27th game and is the fastest to 30 since the sack became an official statistic in 1982. The previous mark was held by Pro Football Hall of Famer REGGIE WHITE.
  • Smith’s 30.5 sacks are the second-most by a player (White, 31) in his first two NFL seasons.
  • In his second year from Missouri, this is Smith’s first career Player of the Month Award.
