Quarterback ROBERT GRIFFIN III of the Washington Redskins and linebacker LAVONTE DAVID of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the NFL Offensive and Defensive Rookies of the Month for November (November 1-26), the NFL announced today.



  • Griffin, who led the Redskins to a 2-1 record in November, completed 56 of 81 passes (69.1 percent) for 719 yards with eight touchdowns and one interception for a 124.5 passer rating. He also rushed for 166 yards.
  • He is the first rookie in NFL history to throw four touchdown passes in consecutive games (Week 11 and 12) and his two-game total of eight touchdown passes is the most by a rookie in any two game span in league annals.
  • Griffin was named the NFC Offensive Player of Week 11 for his performance in the Redskins’ 31-6 win over Philadelphia. He completed 14 of 15 passes (93.3 percent) for 200 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions for a 158.3 passer rating, becoming the first rookie in NFL history to post the highest possible rating.
  • In Week 12, Griffin completed 19 of 27 passes (70.4 percent) for 304 yards with four touchdowns and one interception for a 131.8 passer rating.
  • Griffin had a combined 146.3 passer rating for his Week 11 and 12 performances, the best two-game mark by a rookie in NFL history.
  • He is the first player in NFL history with four touchdown passes of at least 60 yards and a 60+ yard touchdown run in a single season.
  • This is the second time this season Griffin has been named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month (September).
  • Griffin is the second quarterback to be named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month two times. SAM BRADFORD was the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month for October and November in 2010.



  • David led the NFL with 47 tackles during November, including a league-best 40 solo tackles. Five of his tackles were for a loss.
  • He started all four games during the month as the Buccaneers won three of their four games.
  • David anchored a Tampa Bay defense that led the NFL allowing just 75.3 rushing yards per game in November. The Buccaneers also ranked first in the league during the month by allowing just 3.17 rushing yards per carry.
  • He recorded at least eight tackles in all four games, including a career-high 16 (14 solo tackles) in Week 9 and 14 (13 solo tackles) in Week 10.
  • Nineteen of David’s tackles were within three yards of the line of scrimmage or behind, including five for a loss and four for no gain.
  • ·         David is the first Buccaneer to be named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month.
  • ·         This is the second consecutive month a Buccaneer has been named NFL Rookie of the Month. Running back DOUG MARTIN was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month for October.
  • ·         This is the fourth time that a team has had rookie monthly award winners on both offense and defense in the same season (2010 Detroit, 2003 Jacksonville, 1998 Jacksonville).

Other nominees for the November NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month Award as submitted by NFL clubs:

  • Jacksonville wide receiver JUSTIN BLACKMON (first round, Oklahoma State), who had 20 receptions for 355 yards (17.8 average) with three touchdowns.
  • Indianapolis wide receiver T.Y. HILTON (third round, Florida International), who had 15 receptions for 235 yards with four touchdowns. Hilton also registered a 75-yard punt return-touchdown.
  • Minnesota tackle MATT KALIL (first round, USC), who started all three games and helped the Vikings lead the NFL in rushing yards per game (184.3).
  • Indianapolis quarterback ANDREW LUCK (first round, Stanford), who passed for 1,234 yards with five touchdowns. He also rushed for two touchdowns.
  • Tampa Bay running back DOUG MARTIN (first round, Boise State), who led the NFL with 507 rushing yards and six touchdowns.
  • Cleveland running back TRENT RICHARDSON (first round, Alabama), who rushed for 285 yards with one touchdown.
  • Cincinnati wide receiver MOHAMED SANU (third round, Rutgers), who had 13 receptions for 127 yards with four touchdowns.
  • Seattle quarterback RUSSELL WILSON (third round, Wisconsin), who completed 49 of 70 passes (70 percent) for 585 yards with seven touchdowns and no interceptions for a 128.6 passer rating.


Other nominees for the November NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month Award as submitted by NFL clubs:

  • Cincinnati linebacker VONTAZE BURFICT (undrafted, Arizona State), who had 28 tackles and one fumble recovery.
  • Tennessee linebacker ZACH BROWN (second round, North Carolina), who had 24 tackles, two sacks, one fumble recovery and a 47-yard interception return.
  • New England cornerback ALFONZO DENNARD (seventh round, Nebraska), who had 14 tackles, one forced fumble and an 87-yard interception-return touchdown.
  • Carolina linebacker LUKE KUECHLY (first round, Boston College), who had 43 tackles and two fumble recoveries. 
  • Seattle defensive end BRUCE IRVIN (first round, West Virginia), who had 2.5 sacks and four tackles in the team’s three games.
