Zeller Highlights AP Preseason All-America Team

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana sophomore Cody Zeller was a near unanimous selection for the 2012 Associated Press Preseason All-America Team, announced by the AP on Monday, Oct. 29.
Zeller, a native of Washington, Ind., earned 64 of 65 votes and is joined on the team by Doug McDermott (Creighton), Isaiah Canaan (Murray State), Deshaun Thomas (Ohio State), C.J. McCollum (Lehigh) and Trey Burke (Michigan).
Recently honored as the Big Ten's Preseason Player of the Year and a unanimous All-Big Ten pick, Zeller also earned honors from The Sporting News, earning Preseason Player of the Year and First Team All-American honors, while being named a Preseason All-American by the Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook and Athlon. Athlon also tabbed Zeller as the preseason Big Ten Player of the Year.
Coming off a year where he earned AP All-American and Freshman All-American honors, Zeller led the team with 15.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, while shooting 62.3 percent (200-of-321) from the field and 75.5 percent (163-of-216) from the free throw line. He ranked fourth in the country in field goal percentage and led the Big Ten Conference. Zeller was the Big Ten's Freshman of the Year, as voted on by the coaches, after earning Big Ten Freshman of the Week seven times. He was also Second Team All-Big Ten and All-Freshman Team selection, and a finalist for the Wayman Tisdale National Freshman of the Year award, and the John Wooden and Oscar Robertson National Player of the Year awards. In NCAA tournament play, Zeller averaged 16.7 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game.

The Hoosiers play host to Indiana Wesleyan in an exhibition game on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. ET in Assembly Hall, before opening the regular season on Friday, Nov. 9 against Bryant at 8 p.m. in Bloomington.
