Mountain West Names Football Players of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.- Derek Carr (Fresno State), Jake Fely (San Diego State) and Pete Kontodiakos (Colorado State) are the Mountain West Players of the Week for games through Oct. 27. Carr earns Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Fely garners the Defensive Player award and Kontodiakos receives Special Teams recognition. This marks the second career MW weekly accolade for all three individuals.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
DEREK CARR, FRESNO STATE

Junior quarterback Derek Carr led Fresno State back from a 21-0 deficit to register a 49-32 win at New Mexico, throwing for 416 yards and four touchdowns. The Bakersfield, Calif., native completed 31-of-44 passes (70.4 percent) with one interception while orchestrating an offensive effort that outscored the Lobos by a 35-8 margin in the second half. The 400-yard performance was Carr's second of 2012, tying the Mountain West record for most 400-yard passing games in a season. With Fresno State trailing 24-14 at intermission, Carr threw two touchdown passes in the third quarter to give the Bulldogs their first lead of the game. His first TD of the second half was a 21-yarder to Marcel Jensen that cut UNM's lead to three, 24-21 at 9:46 of the third quarter. Then just over two minutes later, Carr connected with Davante Adams on a third-and-15 for an 89-yard touchdown pass that put the Bulldogs on top for good. The 89-yard pass play marked the fourth-longest in the FBS this season.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JAKE FELY, SAN DIEGO STATE

Sophomore linebacker Jake Fely amassed a team- and game-tying-high 11 tackles, including eight solo stops, in San Diego State's 24-13 victory over UNLV on Saturday. The Oceanside, Calif., product also matched a career-best with 2.0 sacks while forcing his first fumble of the season. The victory made the Aztecs bowl-eligible for the third consecutive season and stretched their win streak to four games.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
PETE KONTODIAKOS, COLORADO STATE

Senior Pete Kontodiakos registered 247 yards on four punts as Colorado State snapped a six-game losing streak with a 42-27 victory over Hawai`i on Saturday. The Tarpon Springs, Fla., native recorded punts of 72, 60, 59 and 56 yards, with two falling inside the Warriors' 15-yard line. His 61.8 punting average in the contest shattered the previous MW single-game record of 58.0, held by BYU's Matt Payne (Nov. 2, 2002 vs. San Diego State), and marked the third-best performance by an FBS player this season, trailing Western Michigan's J. Schroeder (66.0 vs. Massachusetts) and USC's Kyle Negrete (64.0 vs. Colorado).
