Home » Football NewsRICHMOND VS FRANKLIN COUNTYOctober 25, 2012 Richmond High SchoolRICHMOND VS FRANKLIN COUNTY By Troy Derengowski, Richmond’s Sports Page Friday night the Richmond football team will attempt to do something they haven’t been able to do in a long time…get to a sectional championship game. More importantly, this will give Richmond a chance to win a sectional championship for the first time since 1992. But in order for that to happen, they must find a way to get by Franklin County. The Wildcats are 5-5 but as I wrote earlier, don’t let that record fool you. They have suffered several injuries including their starting tailback who is out for the rest of the season and they lost several linemen on both sides of the ball. The line is healthy again and back-up tailback Layne Harnishfeger is filling the hole rather nicely. Remember, this is an offense that put up 511 yards of total offense against New Castle last week. Yes I know it was New Castle but anytime you rack up 500 yards of total offense that’s impressive. Fullback Chase Halloran is a bowling ball at 5-8 and 210 pounds. He will be tough to bring down. QB Brett Campbell threw for two scores last week so the Richmond defense will have to stay on their toes against the pass. The Wildcats have some size on the offensive line. Right Tackle Donovan Cecil is 6-3 and 300 pounds. Left Tackle Tim Selm is 6-0 and 290 pounds. As for the Red Devils, the offense needs to be more consistent. They look explosive one minute and then they go three and out the next. QB Justyn Curtis told me Wednesday they have to get re-focused again as they get ready for Franklin County. The one thing Richmond can’t do is count on the defense to continue to get big stops and make big plays week-in and week-out. At some point the offense will have to put up some big numbers and it may have to happen Friday night. The other sectional 15 match-up will feature Columbus East against Connersville. The Spartans have had a great season at 7-3 but it will all come to an end Friday night. Columbus East is too powerful and they very seldom lose at home. Elsewhere in sectional play: Northeastern plays Eastern Hancock in sectional 37. The Knights won’t overlook the Royals after they beat Hagerstown last week. This game can be seen on RadioTroy.com. Here is a look at this week’s sectional semi-final games:
