DEVILS BEAT MUNCIE CENTRAL

September 15, 2012
Richmond High School

MUNCIE, IND. — Richmond’s defense was tested on the Red Devils’ rise to 3-0 for the first time in more than 10 years.

RHS passed — and made sure the Red Devils didn’t pass on the chance to set up a showdown of North Central Conference unbeatens next week at Lyboult Field.

Richmond kept Muncie Central off the scoreboard in the fourth quarter, and made a 26-21 decision for the Devils stand up Friday night.

The RHS defense twice turned away fourth-quarter drives in Red Devil territory to earn a third straight victory.

“It was big. It was big for the defense,” said senior David Youngblood, who swatted away a late chance from Central quarterback Billy Walker.

“Defense did what they could.”

So did the offense, especially on fourth down and down by a point.

J.D. Moore took a handoff 4 yards on fourth-and-goal with 1:06 left in the third quarter for what turned into the winning touchdown.

“I had to get it,” Moore said. “I had to run as hard as I could.”

Richmond’s backfield did a lot of running.
